A woman was wounded in a shooting Thursday night near a park in Germantown, Philadelphia police said.

The woman, 34, was near the entrance to Vernon Park on the 5700 block of Germantown Avenue around 10:15 p.m. when she was shot in the lower jaw and neck, Chief Inspector Scott Small said. The woman was conscious and talking to police when they arrived on scene, Small said, and was listed in stable condition at Einstein Medical Center.

Police found a single shell casing in the entrance to the park, Small said, and retrieved surveillance footage from nearby businesses. Small described the suspect as a male wearing a blue T-shirt and blue jeans, last seen running north on McCallum Street near Rittenhouse Street.

Small said that police were still attempting to determine a motive in the incident, but that preliminary information indicated that a possible "previous encounter" between the woman and the alleged shooter might have been connected to the shooting. - Aubrey Whelan
