DCCC teacher earns

two awards

MEDIA A Delaware County Community College professor received two teaching awards this year - one from her own school and one regional honor for educators.

Kathleen Schank of Havertown received the Lindback Distinguished Teaching Award, which recognizes faculty members at colleges in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. Also this year, she was given Delaware County Community College's Gould Award for outstanding teaching.

Schank graduated from DCCC in 1994. After earning a bachelor's degree from Rosemont College and a master's degree in social work from Bryn Mawr College, Schank became a social worker.

She later returned to teach at DCCC, where she is now a tenured professor in behavioral sciences.

As a student, Schank had tried to take classes from professors who had won the Gould Award, she said in a news release announcing the awards.

"There wasn't even a clue in my brain that I would ever be able to teach as a faculty member," she said. - Laura McCrystal
