Video made by local judges set to debut on Friday

Video made by local judges to debut

NORRISTOWN A flock of paparazzi likely won't be at Friday's debut of a 73-minute video on courtroom interviews of children involved in custody disputes. But for those who made it, success at easing that process is all the reward they need.

The video has a no-nonsense name: Judicial Interview of the Child. It was filmed in the Norristown law offices of Dan Clifford, a local attorney who led the project and who is the outgoing chair of the Pennsylvania Bar Association's Family Law Section.

"A major goal of the video program is to offer guidance to Family Court judges, often new to the bench, on how to put children at ease during courtroom interviews when important custody decisions are being made," Clifford said.

On it, eight judges from around Pennsylvania - including Montgomery, Chester, Delaware and Philadelphia Counties Family Court judges - describe their interviewing techniques. Also featured are mock interviews between child actors and judges.

The video's premiere will be Friday at a Family Law Section meeting in Maryland, with copies given to attendees. It will be sent to judges throughout Pennsylvania this week and posted on YouTube next week, Clifford said. - Carolyn Davis
