Commissioner to attend national conference of county governments

WEST CHESTER A Chester County commissioner is traveling to New Orleans this week for a national conference to learn from other counties and bring back ideas.

Commissioner Terence Farrell will attend the 79th annual National Association of Counties conference, where he said he hopes to learn about initiatives that save money, some of which he has brought back to Chester County in previous years.

The National Association of Counties provided a health discount card program that Chester County launched for residents in the spring. The program includes discounts on vision care, hearing aids, and diabetes supplies. The association's prescription drug discount program has saved residents $600,000 in drug costs in the five years it has been available, according to the county.

Topics for workshops at this year's conference include economic development and federal funding opportunities to improve safety on county roads. This is Farrell's seventh time at the conference, which runs from Friday to Monday this year.

"It's always been very beneficial," Farrell said. "We all have the same challenges in delivering services." - Michaelle Bond
