Philadelphia police are investigating two separate shootings in the city, including a double shooting in Frankford on Thursday night that left a 25-year-old man dead.

Police said the man was walking south in the 5200 block of Akron Street at 9:45 when another man, in a gray hoodie and shorts, suddenly fired three shots. The 25-year-old was struck once in the chest and once in the right shoulder.

As the gunman and a companion ran north on Akron, one of them shot a 25-year-old witness in the right thigh, police said.

Police transported both victims to Temple University Hospital, where the one man was pronounced dead at 10:32 p.m. The witness was treated there.

Police have not released the name of the man who died or determined a motive.

On Friday, a 23-year-old man was in critical condition at Hahnemann University Hospital after being shot once in the head, once in the groin, and once in the left arm.

Police said he was in the 2500 block of Ridge Avenue when he was wounded shortly before 5 p.m.
