Billiard ball, bird feeder used in beatings

The attacks took place in Philly and in Lancaster County, officials said.

WHO NEEDS a gun when you can assault your enemies with billiard balls and bird feeders?

In two bizarre incidents about an hour apart yesterday, two men were beaten with unusual objects, officials said.

In the first attack, Samuel Hampton, of Avondale, Chester County, allegedly was tackled by Richard Edgar Hill of Peach Bottom, Lancaster County, about 12:30 a.m. at a home in Fulton Township, State Police said.

In the heat of their tussle, Hill smashed Hampton over the head with a glass hummingbird feeder, police said.

Hill's alleged motive? Hampton refused to "party with him," according to the incident report.

The alleged attacker fled, but later was apprehended.

About an hour later, in Philadelphia, a 33-year-old man was perhaps partying a little too much at the Billy Blues Bar in Juniata Park.

Officer Jillian Russell, a police spokeswoman, said that the man got into an argument with three others over a game of pool, and that one of the men hit him with a billiard ball, bashing it into his head several times before fleeing. On his way out, the attacker looted his victim, taking $300 and a cellphone, Russell said.

When officers arrived at the bar, on Hunting Park Avenue near O Street, the victim refused medical treatment. Investigators were searching for the three men last night.
