Villanova University announces its selection for One Book program
VILLANOVA It has been 10 years since Villanova University started its One Book Villanova program for students, staff, and faculty.
This year's selection is The Other Wes Moore, One Name Two Fates, by Wes Moore, the school announced.
The same day that the Baltimore Sun published a short article about how author Moore had received a Rhodes scholarship, there was also a story about four young men who killed a police officer during an armed robbery. One also was named Wes Moore. The author contacted the man, who was convicted of murder and serving a life sentence. He discovered their lives were similar. They grew up fatherless, and ran into trouble. But their decisions were different.
Moore, the author, graduated from Valley Forge Military Academy and College and Johns Hopkins University, and studied international relations at Oxford University. He also was a captain in the Army and served in Afghanistan. He was a White House fellow to Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, and became host of Beyond Belief on the Oprah Winfrey Network.
Moore will speak at the Connelly Center on Sept. 25 at 7 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.
