Police to check for dog permits

NORRISTOWN Dog owners, beware. Norristown police will be conducting compliance checks this week to make sure residents' pooches have the proper permits.

State law requires that owners obtain a rabies vaccine and a county license for all dogs more than three months old.

A license costs less than $10, while the fine for not having a license is up to $300 a dog.

"Teams of dog wardens will be canvassing Norristown neighborhoods," the county said in a news release. "A dog license is the best way to ensure lost dogs get home quickly."

Dog owners can purchase a license by mail, online at, or in person at the county Treasurer's Office in Norristown, 1 Montgomery Plaza, 6th Floor.
