A South Jersey woman was arrested early Wednesday morning at Philadelphia International Airport after allegedly trying to get through a checkpoint with a loaded handgun and a knife, Philadelphia police said.

Kathryn Spiropoulos, 53, of Ewing, was trying to get on a flight to Atlanta when a Glock 9mm pistol and "credit card" folding knife were detected about 6:50 a.m. in her purse. Spiropoulos, who police said does not have permit to carry the firearm, was arrested and charged with firearms violations. - Vernon Clark
