Civil War coming to Pennypacker Mills

SCHWENKSVILLE Cannons will roar, drums will beat, and soldiers will mass at the Pennypacker Mills to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the Civil War.

Union and Confederate encampments will be set up at the Civil War Reunion on May 31 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and on June 1 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and the event will feature speakers, demonstrations, and activities, including an opportunity for children to "enlist" in the Union Army.

Visitors can tour the Pennypacker Mansion, where Pennsylvania Gov. Samuel Pennypacker, who served in the early 20th century, resided with his family. Pennypacker was a Civil War veteran, and more than 140 members of his family served on both sides of the war.

The Pennypacker Mills Historic Site, at 5 Haldeman Rd., is operated by the county. Admission and parking to the Civil War events are free. No pets are permitted.
