A West Bradford Township, Chester County, man has been charged with clubbing his housemate's pet rooster to death because he was fed up with the bird's early-morning crowing.
Telford Eugene Blevins, 67, told state police that "the rooster's timing is off" and that it started crowing at 3:30 a.m., police said. It also crows throughout the day, Blevins told them.
Blevins told police he used his metal baseball bat to smash the rooster's head into a metal pole in the 1300 block of Crestmont Drive around 8 a.m. Friday. When police arrived, the animal was dead. Several chickens in the yard were unharmed.
Blevins, who was charged with animal cruelty, a misdemeanor, said he repeatedly had asked the rooster's owner to get rid of the animal.
