Bucks man, 81, gets up to 1,870 years in jail

A Bucks County judge has sentenced an 81-year-old man to 935 to 1,870 years in prison for sexually abusing a teenage girl over a four-year period and videotaping much of the abuse.

Thomas Holliday of Lower Makefield Township was found guilty in January of more than 200 criminal counts, including aggravated indecent assault without consent and filming a sex act involving a child, both felonies.

Officials said the assaults began when the girl was 14 and ended last summer after she confided in a family member, who convinced her to go to police.

Officials said that Holliday had known the girl's grandparents and had taken her in because she came from a disadvantaged background. The girl had been living in a house with her mother and siblings that often lacked food, authorities said.

Judge Albert Cepparulo imposed the sentence for each count consecutively, and the length of the sentence was aimed at deterring others from committing similar abuses, prosecutors said.
