Comprehensive plan for Media includes better sidewalks

MEDIA Residents of Media want a better sidewalk network, places to safely ride bikes, and green space.

Those requests are among the goals in the borough's new comprehensive plan. A draft of the plan, which lays out goals for the next 10 years, was completed last month. Borough Council is expected to vote on its adoption this spring.

"One of the messages that we heard loud and clear from this process is that people really want walkability," Council President Brian Hall said. "They also want good transit connections."

The plan was developed over the last year by speaking with residents, planners, and business owners.

Borough Manager Jeff Smith said many residents voiced a desire for better sidewalk connections between busy Baltimore Pike and pedestrian-friendly State Street.

Municipalities update their comprehensive plans every 10 years; Hall said Media began early and was now updating its 2006 plan. A draft of the new comprehensive plan is available at
