Montco to host women's law officers association
Female law officers
to hold annual gathering
VALLEY FORGE Three Montgomery County law enforcement officials on Monday will welcome the annual conference of Mid-Atlantic Association of Women in Law Enforcement, in Valley Forge.
The theme is "Protecting Those Who Can't Protect Themselves," and the event will include presentations on child pornography investigations, cyberbullying, elder crimes, and intervening in domestic violence situations.
More than 115 female officers from Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, New York, Maryland, and Virginia are expected to attend the gathering at the Radisson Hotel Valley Forge.
About 84,000 of approximately 700,000 police officers in the United States - around 12 percent - are women, said Abington Township Police Lt. Kelley Warner, president of the Mid-Atlantic group and conference cochair.
"It's really important that our female officers get the professional support that they need," Warner said. "They can share experiences and realize the importance of the unique skills that they offer."
