Services set for Giuseppe Puccio, 79, of Norristown

Services for Giuseppe "Pepe" Puccio, 79, the longtime bartender at the Most Holy Mother of Sciacca Social Club, will be held Wednesday morning in Norristown.

Puccio died at his apartment in Norristown last Tuesday, according to the Caramenico Funeral Home. The cause of death has not been disclosed.

Puccio emigrated from Sicily in his late 20s, along with his wife and two young sons. He became a United States citizen in 1976, and spent the next few decades running the M.S.S. Club, a century-old organization for Italian immigrants and their families.

Charles Tornetta, president of the M.S.S. Club, said Puccio was jovial and fatherly, serving up food, drinks, and witticisms in his broken English.

"He always brightened your day with his funny little sayings," said Tony Morrione, a close friend of Puccio's. "He always had the organization in mind. The club first. The club first, and everything else came after that."

A viewing will begin at 10 a.m. Wednesday at 403 E. Main St., followed by a funeral Mass at Holy Saviour Church and burial at St. Patrick's Cemetery. - Jessica Parks
