Phatso's in Chester to be featured on the Food Network

CHESTER Phatso's Bakery in Chester will be featured in the Food Network's new series Save My Bakery on Wednesday at 8 p.m.

Kerry Vincent, renowned cake expert and host of the show, worked with Phatso's last year to make some simple changes to the business, including re-orienting the display cases, a new logo, façade improvements, and new signs inside and out.

Phatso's, at 609 Welsh St., is owned by Richard Wilcox, who took over the former Ann's Donut Shop in 2001 after working at Dunkin' Donuts and Pepperidge Farm for years. Phatso's is best known for its glazed doughnuts and doughnut holes, but also churns out cream-filled doughnuts, muffins, macaroons, and custom cakes.

The bakery has become an institution in Chester and Wilcox is focusing on expanding, including adding a sit-down area for customers.

"We are committed to investing in the business to ensure our customers have the experience they have come to expect," said Wilcox.

Mayor John Linder said Wilcox "has reinvigorated development of our central business district, not only with a delicious product, but with a replicable business model, and now, thanks to the Food Network, an attractive destination spot in the City of Chester."

City Council is planning a special event in honor of Phatso's at its meeting Wednesday evening then will broadcast the show in the Community Room.
