Woman killed by gunfire in Montco

A woman died from a gunshot Friday afternoon in East Norriton Township, Montgomery County prosecutors said.

About 2:25 p.m., police responded to a report of a shooting inside a residence in the 3000 block of Stoney Creek Road, said First Assistant District Attorney Kevin R. Steele.

Police found a woman inside suffering from a gunshot wound, Steele said. She was transported to Mercy Suburban Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Montgomery County District Attorney Risa Vetri Ferman and East Norriton Township Police Chief Karyl Kates said they were conducting a joint investigation.

The woman was pregnant and the wife of a Pennsylvania state trooper, and the shooting may have been accidental, local TV stations reported.
