Cost of Lower Merion pool memberships to be discussed

MONTGOMERY COUNTY

Cost of pool memberships to be discussed by town board

LOWER MERION Lower Merion Township commissioners are scheduled to consider at their meeting Wednesday night whether to increase the cost of 2014 swimming pool memberships by 5 percent.

The Ardmore Avenue Pool family membership - which costs less than one at Belmont Hills because the Ardmore pool is significantly smaller - would rise by $3 to as much as $89 for township residents, depending upon when the membership was purchased. At Belmont Hills, the 2014 family fee could go as high as $418.

"Fees did not increase last year but are needed this year to cover costs which include debt service on the pool reconstruction," the parks and recreation committee chairman, Scott Zelov, said Monday.

Membership fees at the pools began rising most years beginning in 2008, according to a township document, after the facilities had makeovers.

Attendance at both pools decreased last year, primarily due to the weather, the document said.

The meeting begins at 8 p.m. in the second floor boardroom at the Township Administration Building, 75 E. Lancaster Ave., Ardmore.
