KING OF PRUSSIA Ten Montgomery County fire and ambulance companies will share in more than $135,000 in state grants, State Rep. Tim Briggs (D., Montgomery) has announced.

"The work these first responders do for our communities is vital, and I know these grants will allow them to continue their excellent public service," Briggs said.

The grants are part of the Fire Company and Volunteer Ambulance Service Grant Program, which gets $30 million annually from gaming revenue, Briggs' office said.

Grant recipients in the county are: Bridgeport Fire Company No. 1; Bryn Mawr Fire Company; Good Will Fire Company of Bridgeport; King of Prussia Volunteer Fire Company; Lafayette Ambulance and Rescue Squad Inc.; Merion Fire Company of Ardmore; Penn Wynne Overbrook Hills Fire Company; Swedeland Volunteer Fire Company No. 1; Swedesburg Volunteer Fire Company; and the Volunteer Medical Service Corps of Narberth. Grants can be used to build or improve facilities, repair or buy equipment, train and certify staff, or repay certain debts. - Carolyn Davis
