Earned income tax in Middletown Twp. earns jeers
Earned-income tax jeered
MIDDLETOWN The Middletown Township Board of Supervisors recently enacted an earned-income tax rate of 0.5 percent, drawing a pointed rebuke from a group of residents that established an organization opposing the tax.
Middletown officials had originally proposed a levy of 1 percent; most municipalities in the region have an earned-income tax.
But none of that was enough to appease Middletown Taxpayers United.
Last week, a group member posted a long message on the organization's Facebook page reflecting on the passing of the new tax and vowing to stay active within the community.
"There is much to fix in Middletown," the message said, "and that is why MTU will continue in its mission."
