Man, 60, dies in Center City blaze
A CENTER CITY man died yesterday in a high-rise fire, officials said.
The blaze broke out just after 4 p.m. in the victim's apartment on the 10th floor of the building, on 13th Street near Chancellor, officials said.
That man, 60, was taken by medics to Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 4:27 p.m. The cause of death was smoke inhalation and a heart attack, a source said.
About 144 units in the building were affected by the fire, said Richard Davison, Fire Department executive chief. An estimated 132 occupants were evacuated from those units.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the fire marshal, Davison said.
