Top honors for two Montco schools
Fifteen schools in Pennsylvania, including two in Montgomery County, made the national list of 2013 Blue Ribbon schools.
Students and staff at Souderton Charter School Collaborative and Whitemarsh Elementary were notified of the awards Tuesday in a live-video stream by U.S. Education Secretary Arne Duncan.
They were among 236 public and charter, and 50 private and parochial, schools this year to win the awards for outstanding academic performance or outstanding improvement.
Three others in Southeastern Pennsylvania were singled out: Laboratory Charter School of Communication and Languages in Philadelphia, St. Andrew School in Newtown, and St. Patrick School in Malvern.
The Souderton Charter Collaborative enrolls 197 students in kindergarten through eighth grade.
Whitemarsh Elementary, in the Colonial School District, enrolls 416 students through third grade.
