Charles Pollock | Chair designer, 83
Mr. Pollock, raised in Michigan, moved to New York to attend the Pratt Institute. In 1963, he introduced his chair, set on rolling wheels and visually distinctive with tufted upholstery and an aluminum band around its edges. The chair is still in production.
In the decades that followed, Mr. Pollock moved away from furniture design, but returned to it recently. After being sought out by Jerry Helling of Bernhardt Design, Mr. Pollock created a lounge chair that was introduced last year. - Associated Press
