New to running, mother killed by car had placed in her first race last month

Authorities on Tuesday identified the woman killed by a car the day before in Limerick Township as Merinda Pietrafitta Thompson, 40, of Royersford.

Authorities on Tuesday identified the woman killed by a car the day before in Limerick Township as Merinda Pietrafitta Thompson, 40, of Royersford.

Thompson, a mother of two, was jogging along the shoulder of North Lewis Road when she was struck by a swerving car, Montgomery County District Attorney Risa Vetri Ferman said.

The identity of the male driver, 18, has not been released. Police took a sample of his blood for testing as well as his cellphone.

The District Attorney's Office and Limerick police are investigating.
