A 5-year-old girl was abducted from her West Philadelphia school Monday morning in what a School District spokesman called a "complete breakdown in protocol."

State police issued an Amber Alert for Nailla Robinson, who authorities said was taken by a woman in black Muslim garb about 8:50 a.m. from Bryant School, 6001 Cedar Ave.

The woman, whose face was covered, identified herself as "Tiffany," signed a sheet illegibly, and walked away with the girl, said Lt. John Walker of Southwest Detectives. They were last seen walking west on Hazel Street.

Around 3 p.m., a person with a day-care service who was supposed to pick up Nailla, who lives with her mother in South Philadelphia, was told that the girl had already been picked up, Walker said. Nailla's mother told police she did not know who took her child.

Walker said the girl was taken out of her kindergarten class and brought to the woman, but district spokesman Fernando Gallard said the woman was allowed to take the child from her teacher in the classroom.

"That teacher is not supposed to release that child to an adult," Gallard said.

Nailla was described as 40 inches tall, 35 pounds, with brown eyes and black curly hair.

Late Monday, Mayor Nutter offered a $10,000 reward for information leading to Nailla's return and an arrest in her abduction. Anyone with information about the abduction is asked to call 911.
