Man connected to Northern Liberties shooting arrested in Texas

A man wanted in connection with a fatal shooting outside a bar and restaurant in Northern Liberties was arrested Tuesday in Texas, a law enforcement official said.

A man wanted in connection with a fatal shooting outside a bar and restaurant in Northern Liberties was arrested Tuesday in Texas, a law enforcement official said.

Steven Miller, 22, of Philadelphia, was arrested during a vehicle stop in the Houston area, said Chief Deputy U.S. Marshal John Patrignani. Miller, who was with two women, initially gave a fake name but then admitted his identity, Patrignani said.

Miller is accused of fatally shooting Maurice Kimble, 24, of Upper Darby, after an altercation inside PYT at the Piazza at Schmidts shortly after 12:01 a.m. June 11.

Kimble was shot twice in the chest and once in the groin on North Hancock Street. He died at Hahnemann University Hospital.

Patrignani said authorities in Philadelphia developed a lead that Miller had fled to Texas. A U.S. Marshals Service task force in the region gained further information about Miller's whereabouts, which led to his capture.

Miller was being held Tuesday in the Harris County Jail awaiting an extradition hearing.
