Fugitive in home invasion now wanted for murder

A Southwest Philadelphia man, accused of shooting an 80-year-old man during a home invasion last month, has been charged with murder following the death of his elderly victim, police said.

Sean Johnson, of the 2100 block of S. 67th Street, and an accomplice forced their way into Joseph Fleming's house on the 6600 block of Yocum Street on May 17, police said. During the break-in, Johnson allegedly shot Fleming twice and left him for dead, police said.

Fleming clung to life for more than a month at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, but died of his injuries on June 22.

Johnson, 18, had been captured soon after the home invasion. He escaped from the Southwest Detectives Division at 55th and Pine Streets on May 19. Police could not immediately explain how he was able to flee.

Johnson's alleged accomplice, Aaron Pitts, 20, surrendered to police on June 22 and was charged with murder, robbery, burglary and other counts.

Johnson remains at large.
