Three killed in Mill Creek grocery store

Three people, including two women, were killed tonight in a shooting inside a grocery store in the city's Mill Creek section, police said.

The two thugs stormed into the Lorena's Grocery store in Mill Creek last night seeking money. They stormed out cold-blooded killers.

Police Tuesday night were hunting down two suspects who brutally executed three workers at the grocery store on 50th Street near Parrish, including the store's owner, his wife and his sister.

"Right now it is believed that they did not resist at all," said Homicide Capt. James Clark. "This was an out and out assassination."

Police said the triple slaying happened around 8 p.m. Clark said that the store owner was found shot multiple times just inside the entrance of the store.

He said that it's believed that one of the shooters then went into the back of the store and shot the women to death "for no reason." Both of the women were shot multiple times as well.

All three victims were transported to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, where they were declared dead.

A friend of the family identified the victims as Porfirio Nunez, the store's owner, his wife Carmen Nunez, and his sister, Lina Nunez.

Neighbors huddled under umbrellas Tuesday night, some with tears in their eyes, watching as police filtered in and out of the store.

"They showed love to everybody," said Mike Walker, 33, who grew up in the area and said he went to the store daily. "You could always come back and pay later.

"They were good people. That's messed up, what happened. That's the hood for you, I'm sorry to say."

"They were a working family," said friend Amuro Torres. "They were beautiful people."

Police Tuesday night said they weren't sure if anything was stolen and that they were reviewing surveillance images from the store.

Clark described the suspects as a stocky man in his 20s, about 5 feet 4, wearing a black shirt and black cap, and a man in his 30s, also wearing a black shirt and black cap. Anyone with information is asked to contact Homicide detectives at 215-686-3334, or 35.
