Kenyatta Johnson has won the Democratic nomination for the Second District City Council seat by 46 votes, a close-to-final tally of last week's primary vote shows.

Kenyatta Johnson has won the Democratic nomination for the Second District City Council seat by 46 votes, a close-to-final tally of last week's primary vote shows.

A full count of absentee and provisional ballots at the City Commissioners' office, completed Monday afternoon, gave Johnson a 46-vote lead over Barbara Capozzi.

Absentee ballots from soldiers unable to vote in last week's election will still be counted if they arrive before 5 p.m. Tuesday, but no more than a handful of additional votes are expected.

Johnson's attorney Kevin Greenberg expressed confidence that his client's name would be on the November ballot.

Capozzi, who sat silently throughout the count, declined comment.
