Bensalem police seize $600k in heroin at hotel

A kilogram of raw heroin was seized Thursday morning in a Bucks County hotel room after two Bensalem officers were called to the hotel's parking lot to investigate a suspicious car, police said.

Four Camden, N.J., men were arrested at the hotel on the 2900 block of Lincoln Hwy., which was not named by police. The men were charged on multiple narcotics counts, said Sgt. Andrew Aninsman, a police spokesman.

The heroin, which was valued at $600,000 was packaged and wrapped in balloons. Balloons are commonly used to in drug smuggling to avoid detection in airports and other mass transit, Aninsman said.

In addition to the heroin, police also seized a stolen .40 caliber handgun and thousands of items used to package bulk heroin for resale.

Arrested were Raymer Carrasco, 26; Jose Vargas, 20; Melvin Torres, 18; and Francisco Saldana, 21, Aninsman said. Each was being held on $750,000 at Bucks County Prison.
