Man killed in head-on crash

A 19-year-old Glenside man was killed Saturday in an early-morning head-on crash with a private ambulance at Broad and 66th Streets in East Oak Lane, authorities said. Police did not release the victim's name, pending notification of his family.

A 24-year-old male passenger in the burning car was injured and sent to Albert Einstein Medical Center, where he was reported in critical condition, police said.

The passengers in the ambulance - including a 63-year-old male patient, a 28-year-old male medic and a 24-year-old male driver - were also taken to Einstein and reported in stable condition.

Police said at 2:42 a.m., the driver of the car was traveling northbound on Broad when he crossed into the southbound lane, striking the ambulance. The vehicle caught fire, trapping the men in the car. The passenger was pulled out but the driver was pronounced dead at 2:47 a.m.
