Cops say fast food slowed thieves down

Cops were called to a home on Convent Lane near Torresdale Avenue in Torresdale about 12:50 p.m. for a report of a burglary of $25,000 in jewelry.

Two men who may be responsible for several daytime burglaries in Torresdale were apprehended yesterday afternoon in a Wendy's parking lot in Kensington, police said. Cops were called to a home on Convent Lane near Torresdale Avenue in Torresdale about 12:50 p.m. for a report of a burglary of $25,000 in jewelry.

Cops at a Wendy's on Aramingo Avenue near Venango Street spotted a car that matched the description of one involved in the burglary. When police investigated, they found the men admiring the jewelry.

2DRUG RING BUSTED

The state attorney general announced the arrest of 16 suspects yesterday in an $800,000 cocaine ring allegedly run by William Gilkin, 39, of 16th Street near Pollock.Gilkin allegedly paid Robert Berry, 50, of Grays Avenue near 64th Street, $850 per ounce of cocaine and then redistributed the drugs after cutting it in his mother's basement.

3PAIR SHOT, THEN CRASH CAR

A man, 39, was shot three times and a woman, 31, was shot once on Park Avenue near Cumberland Street about 2 p.m. yesterday, investigators said. The pair tried to drive to the hospital but crashed at 11th and Glenwood. From there they were taken to Temple University Hospital, where the man was listed in critical condition. The woman's condition was unknown.

4POLICE SHOOT TWO SUSPECTS

Cops wounded two men who were in a car that rammed a cruiser in Kensington last night. Police spokesman Lt. Frank Vanore said the drama started about 8:40 p.m., when Highway Patrol officers responded to a report of a person with a gun at Auburn Street and Frankford Avenue.

The three suspect's car struck their cruiser and then smashed into a fence. The trio tumbled out of their car and opened fire. Police shot and wounded two suspects who were admitted to Temple University Hospital in stable condition. The third suspect fled but was captured.
