Chesco man gets 22 to 46 years in shooting

A 28-year-old Coatesville man will spend 22 to 46 years in prison for a 2006 attempted homicide that grew out of an argument over a woman, a Chester County Court judge ruled yesterday.

Judge Ronald C. Nagle imposed the sentence on Shamone F. Woods, who was found guilty in October of firing several shots at Curtis Self, of East Fallowfield Township, on Sept. 12, 2006.

Self told police he was driving home from the Bongo Club in Coatesville when a vehicle pulled up behind him on Route 82. Self said the driver kept flashing his high beams on and off; in response, Self pulled over and stopped near Strasburg Road, the criminal complaint said.

The other vehicle pulled alongside Self, who recognized the person in the passenger's seat as Woods, who then began shooting at Self, the complaint said. Self, who was treated for a gunshot woound to his upper left arm, told police he and Woods had argued about a woman three days earlier, the complaint said.

In a separate case, Woods, who is represented by defense attorney Joseph P. Green Jr., is awaiting trial on homicide charges. He is accused of being a conspirator in the Oct. 21, 2006, slaying of Jonas L. Suber, 33, of Coatesville. Suber was shot eight times when he answered a knock at his door on Walnut Street.
