Robber sought via his 'cell-f portrait'

Vanity.

Gets you every time.

Especially in the case of the narcissistic man who snapped a picture of himself holding a gun to his head - taking the photo by using a cell phone he'd allegedly stolen from a woman in Olney.

Of course, the robbery suspect didn't know that the woman had programmed her cell phone to automatically send pictures to her computer.

"We really appreciate him taking a picture of himself," said police spokesman Lt. Frank Vanore. "We just want to get him and identify him as soon as possible."

About 10:10 p.m. on Oct. 7, a 20-year-old woman was walking home from a SEPTA train station near Nedro Avenue and Warnock Street, in Olney, when an unknown man approached her.

"She stated she heard a click and felt a gun pressed to her neck," Vanore said.

The robber then told the woman to drop everything, walk forward, and not look back, cops said.

The woman, who was not hurt, dropped her bag and the robber took it and fled, Vanore said.

The victim's cell phone and other personal belongings were in the bag, Vanore said.

The self-portrait of the suspect appeared on the victim's computer some time later, and she notified police that he was the robber.

"He's obviously someone who's not afraid to put himself out there," Vanore said.

The suspect, who is not known to the victim, was described as a black man, 18 to 23 years old, about 6 feet tall, dark complexioned, and wearing a gray hoodie and blue jeans at the time of the robbery, police said.
