The city has unveiled a new logo that it hopes will become a "signature brand" for marketing Philadelphia.

The words LIFE * LIBERTY * AND YOU and CITY OF PHILADELPHIA accompany an image of the Liberty Bell in several configurations.

The logo, unveiled last week, will be used on city and city-related documents, promotions, and possibly merchandise.

As city letterhead and pamphlets are restocked, the logo will appear, so the city will not incur additional costs from replacing existing supplies, officials said. The seal of the city will still appear on appropriate documents.

The logo also will show up, for example, on water bills, the city's Web site (www.phila.gov), and tourism materials.

It is not replacing "With Love, Philadelphia," which the Greater Philadelphia Tourism Marketing Corp. launched as a campaign in May.

The tourism slogan that originated in the late 1990s, "The Place That Loves You Back," apparently has been phased out.
