Christie assembles bipartisan transition team

New Jersey Gov.-elect Christopher J. Christie named his transition team yesterday, describing the group as bipartisan leaders from the public and private sectors.

"There is no doubt we have our work cut out for us, but I am confident that the team we have put together to lead my transition will set the tone for the rest of the Christie administration," he said.

David Samson, a senior partner at the Wolff & Samson law firm in West Orange, N.J., who was attorney general under former Gov. Jim McGreevey, was named chairman of the transition team.

"We have a lot of work ahead of us, but we are ready to help execute Chris' vision for changing the way our government does business," Samson said.

The team includes State Sen. Sandra B. Cunningham (D., Hudson); Michael DuHaime, who was Christie's senior campaign adviser; State Sen. Joseph M. Kyrillos Jr. (R., Monmouth), who was Christie's campaign chairman; and John McCormac, the Democratic mayor of Woodbridge, who was state treasurer under McGreevey and former Gov. Richard J. Codey and who led Christie on a tour of Woodbridge last week.

The team will contact department heads, explore new ideas and concepts, and make policy recommendations, Christie spokeswoman Maria Comella said.

Ben Dworkin, director of the Rebovich Institute for New Jersey Politics at Rider University, said that "by including people like Cunningham and McCormac, the governor-elect is making an effort to reach out to Democrats and to seek at least their input in some of the decisions that he has to make in building his new administration."
