Ambler man charged with murder after Delco crash

An Ambler man was charged today with third-degree murder in connection with a fatal car crash in Delaware County.

Johnathan Trueheart, 18, allegedly was traveling at a high speed northbound in the southbound lanes of Route 352 yesterday when he drove his Ford Explorer though a red light at the intersection of Knowlton Road in Middletown Township. He collided with a car driven by Joseph Sherlock, 33, of Upper Providence, with such force that it broke the smaller Honda Accord into two pieces. Sherlock was declared dead at the scene, according to court documents.

Trueheart was transported to Crozer Chester Medical Center with injuries.

Drivers of two other cars caught in the pileup and a passenger also were hurt, but their injuries were not life-threatening, police said yesterday.

In addition to murder, Trueheart faces charges including aggravated assault, involuntary manslaughter, and recklessly endangering another person. Bail was denied based on the seriousness of the charges, according to court documents.

What is an 18-year old doing speeding through rural Delco @ 7am in the 1st place??? Student @ Williamson or something? Driving on the wrong side of the road and blowing a red light, late for class or something?

Appears to me as if he was under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol. Or had a death wish. What else explains driving like a bat out of hell in the wrong direction?! Did the police test him on the spot for sobriety? If so, why wasn't it reported?

People will never learn their lesson until it happens to them. Most people run lights, stop signs, pass on the right, cut between lanes, speed, etc. and all it takes is one second and next thing you know you're either dead or in jail. Good for him, he got what he deserves. The rest of you that do those things will eventually get yours too.

The scary part is, and if you are honest with yourself you will admit, that when you were a young man (if you are a man) you may have done something similar. As a teenager I did, my friends did, my dad did, but we and the potential victim were lucky that our paths didn't pass at the wrong moment. It was a dumb mistake and someone died but wishing him death, life in prison, or assuming he was on drugs or drunk on his way to school is ridiculous.

I agree flamingo, he probably is poor and not apart of the well monied to be able to get off with the judges and police to do a hard sentence in jail. When there are Whites involved in crimes, and this young man is definitely White, the system uses class status to convict but they go by the book but if he was Black the system goes by his color/"race" and throw the book at him. It looks like this: White - White = One, because one walks away to live another day. Black - White = Zero, because he won't count where he'd be going. So even in the commission of crimes racism persist.

I'm responsible enough that I haven't killed anyone. Maybe that's because I don't drive on the wrong side of the road at 80 mph. Give this kid the chair, THE CHAIR!!! That punk should burn in hell for taking the life of an innocent person.

flamingo and fivestar = incoherent babble. RE: impairment - not to sound naive, but it's unlikely he was DUI considering the time of day (morning). Solid post KINGOFZED. When it comes to driving recklessly -- especially guys -- there but for the grace of God...

Below is from the Montgomery County news that shows this jerk was going over 100 mph during through a school zone. This guys needs to be locked up forever or exterminated from the planet. "An Ambler driver was behind the wheel of a vehicle going in excess of 100 mph, causing a four-vehicle accident that resulted in one fatality in Middletown Township the morning of Nov. 10. According to Pennsylvania State Police at the Media barracks, Jonathan Trueheart, 18, of Ambler, drove a red Ford Explorer at a high speed into Middletown Township. A Parkside Borough police officer on patrol observed Trueheart's vehicle speeding through a school zone along Route 352. The officer followed Trueheart's vehicle, and other police officers observed the vehicle, but they lost sight of the vehicle as it approached Dutton Mill Road. At approximately 7:42 a.m., Trueheart's vehicle went through a steady red light at the intersection of Route 352 and Knowlton Road and collided with another vehicle, according to police. The other vehicle, which was headed westbound on Knowlton Road through a green light, was operated by Joseph Sherlock, 33, of Upper Providence Township."

This kid deserves the "crow bar" welcoming committee in prison. It's good they charged him with murder. So sorry for this man who was killed. As far as reckless driving, anymore it seems to be the norm, though not to the level to which Mr. Truehart took it. Trying to drive the speed limit on Philadelphia area roads places one in danger of angry, tailgating drivers. It's got to stop.

Hey jackryan. I agree people go through stop signs. Going through at 100 mph is a little excessive---don't you think???
