Bank robber sought
A heavyset bald man is being sought by the FBI and Philadelphia police in the holdup yesterday of the TD Bank at 217 W. Lehigh Ave. Authorities said that the man gave a teller a demand note shortly before 1 p.m. and left with an undisclosed sum of cash. He is described as a Hispanic man in his late 20s or early 30s with closely cropped mustache and beard. Anyone with information about his identity should call the FBI at 215-418-4000.
Shooting victim ID'd
A man who was shot in the head Sunday night in his Southwest Philadelphia home has been identified by police as Rush Thompson, 39.
Thompson, who reportedly lived in his house on Trinity Street near 68th for 16 years, was pronounced dead at the scene at 7:46 p.m.
Holmesburg man slain
Police have identified a Holmesburg man as the victim of a Saturday-afternoon homicide on Woodlawn Avenue near Chew, in Germantown.
Parrish Holmes, 39, of Ditman Street near Rhawn, was shot several times about 12:30 p.m. and pronounced dead at Albert Einstein Medical Center within a half hour.
Man, 20, shot to death
A 20-year-old man whom police have not yet identified was shot to death about 4:20 p.m. Sunday on Herman Street near Baynton, Germantown.
Police who responded to reports of a person with a gun found the man behind a home, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was taken to Albert Einstein Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead Sunday night.
PSPCA removes 17 animals
Officials of the Pennsylvania Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals removed 12 dogs, four cats and at least one turtle from a rowhouse on 29th Street near Wharton, in Grays Ferry, yesterday.
George Bengal, the PSPCA's director of investigations, said that the animals were being kept in unsanitary conditions by their 42-year-old owner, a hoarder who lives alone and who is expected to face charges.
Four of the dogs appeared to be emaciated, while two others bore wounds from a fight. Bengal said that it did not appear that any of the animals were being used in fighting rings.
Delco GOP taps chairman
The Delaware County Republican Party was expected to elect Middletown attorney Andrew Reilly as its new party chairman in a vote scheduled for tonight at the Springfield County Club.
If elected, Reilly, 47, a former County Council chairman, would replace Thomas Judge Sr., who has run the county GOP since 1975.
