Police name 2 slain men, ages 18 and 72

An 18-year-old was gunned down last night about a half-mile from his home in West Philadelphia, according to police.

Police have also finally released the name of a 72-year-old man found dead in his Parkside home on Oct. 10.

At about 7:15 last night, Ernest Howard was found with a gunshot wound to the chest in the 1400 block of North 57th Street, police said.

He was pronounced dead at 8:58 p.m. at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.

Howard lived in the 5200 block of Master Street.

No motives or suspects have been determined yet, police said this morning.

The Parkside victim was Robert L. Richardson, who lived in the 4100 block of West Girard Avenue.

His name had been withheld because of difficulties finding relatives.

His body showed signs of being struck with an object and being strangled, police said.
