A six-vehicle crash that caused minor injuries closed the westbound lanes of the Schuylkill Expressway this morning, creating major headaches for thousands of commuters, police said.
State Police Cpl. Brad Eisenhower of the Belmont barracks said details are sketchy because the investigation into the 7:40 a.m. collision is continuing; however, only one of the two people injured required a hospital transport.
The accident occurred at milepost 335, located between Gladwyne and Conshohocken, Eisenhower said, adding that one one the vehicles was a tractor-trailer. The lanes reopened at 8:25 a.m., according to PennDot.
The collision occurred a day too early for a new PennDot warning system on the Schuylkill, an initiative that debuted in November in Chester County on Routes 202, 100 and 30.
Starting tomorrow, PennDOT will post travel times for the Schuylkill's 100,000 daily motorists on 13 electronic signs. In addition to a three-line message displaying the travel time and distance to a certain interchange, the signs will alert motorists to accidents or emergencies.
