Cops: Man turns himself in after shooting son 3 times

A 42-year-old man who allegedly shot his son three times during a domestic dispute this weekend fled the scene, but negotiated his surrender the following day, according to police.

The incident was one of several involving gunfire throughout the city this weekend.

Police who responded to reports of a person screaming on 26th Street near Federal in Grays Ferry about 11:10 p.m. Friday found a 20-year-old man sitting on the front steps of a house with two gunshot wounds to his chest and one to his left arm, said police spokeswoman Officer Tanya Little.

The victim alleged that he and his father had an argument that led to a physical fight, during which his father pulled out a gun and shot him three times, South Detectives said.

The argument was allegedly about the victim's baby staying at his father's house, even though the victim wasn't, according to South Detectives.

In the wake of the shooting, the father - whose identity has not been released - fled the scene with his gun in hand, police said.

On Saturday, the father got in touch with police and negotiated his surrender about 11:30 a.m. in North Philadelphia, South Detectives said.

He told police he threw the weapon in question away, and neither he nor authorities have been able to find the gun, investigators said. He also claimed the shooting was a matter of self-defense, though police declined to elaborate on the claim.

The man was charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault, firearms violations and related charges.

His son remains in critical condition at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.

Other incidents of violence in the city over the weekend, according to police, include:

* Saturday, 10:30 p.m.: Three men were shot during what they claimed was a robbery at 49th and Reno streets in West Philadelphia.

Two of the victims were found at the scene and a third was found a block away at 49th and Parrish streets.

All were taken to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, where they were listed yesterday in stable condition.

* Saturday, 10:09 p.m.: A 26-year-old man was gunned down on Marshall Street near Huntingdon in West Kensington.

The man, whose identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin, was shot once in the head and once in the back. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 10:14 p.m.

* Friday, 6 p.m.: Ricardo Rowe, 23, of Comly Street near Hasbrook Avenue, was shot to death on Hortter Street near Lowber Avenue in West Oak Lane.

Rowe, who had suffered multiple wounds to his head, shoulders and side, was pronounced dead at Albert Einstein Medical Center at 6:37 p.m.
