Apparently fearing arrest for outstanding warrants, a mother abandoned her injured 10-year-old daughter after causing a car crash in Newark, Del., yesterday morning, according to state police.
Tiffany Hrycek, 27, of Samantha Circle in Bear, ran a red light in her Ford Explorer and struck a Mazda Tribute about 8:40 a.m. at the intersection of Route 40 and Scotland Drive, police said.
Hrycek led her daughter to the sidewalk then fled alone, police said.
The girl was taken to Christiana Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
The other driver, also a woman from Bear, was unharmed.
Hrycek fled because she had two outstanding warrants for her arrest for unspecified charges, police said.
Police found Hrycek at her home and took her into custody.
She was charged with endangering the welfare of a child, leaving the scene of an injury crash, driving while license was suspended, failure to have insurance, failure to have a registration card, and disregarding a red light.
Authorities turned the child over to another family member.
