Authorities round up suspects in child porn probe

More than a dozen people have been arrested in Camden County following a year-long investigation targeting people who allegedly downloaded child pornography.

Police this morning made arrests in Pennsauken and Camden, concluding a series of raids that took officers to a number of towns, including Haddonfield and Voorhees, in recent days.

Those charged ranged in age from 14 to 67 and included students, a retired executive, a soldier and a police dispatcher, authorities said.

"There are no boundaries," said Lt. Martin Devlin of the Camden County Prosecutor's Office Major Crimes Unit.

Sixteen people had been arrested by late yesterday.

Police say all those arrested possessed computer images of of graphic pornography, which are illegal to download, purchase, sell or share.

The investigation included the New Jersey State Police and FBI; teams gathered at 5 a.m., starting Monday, for daily briefings before raiding multiple homes.

Jason Laughlin, spokesman for the Camden County Prosecutor's Office, said detectives used software to identify those downloading the child pornography and matched Internet addresses to homes where the computers could be found.

The investigation will continue as authorities search computers more thoroughly, looking for more files, including deleted images.

Authorities scheduled a news conference for this afternoon to release more information.
