Former State Sen. Vincent J. Fumo arrived at federal court yesterday for a presentencing hearing, tan and noticeably thinner, in a dark suit, white shirt, and bright-blue striped tie. He was accompanied by his fiancee, dress-shop owner Carolyn Zinni, wearing a white top, black skirt, and a princess-cut diamond engagement ring set in a graduated diamond side-stone band.
The couple became engaged Friday, on the eve of Independence Day and less than two weeks before Fumo's scheduled sentencing on July 14.
Zinni mostly kept the stone turned inward during the hearing, her French-manicured hand often holding Fumo's. The ring appears to be a 2-carat diamond. A stone of superior cut, color, and clarity - and when has Fumo ever skimped on quality? - runs between $12,000 and $20,000 at Robbins Diamonds on Jewelers' Row, with the band selling for an additional $1,000. At Tiffany & Co., such a stone sells for $25,000. - Karen Heller
