HARRISBURG, Pa. - Republican Pat Toomey says he raised more than $1 million in the first 11 weeks of his campaign for the U.S. Senate.
Toomey told reporters at the state Capitol in Harrisburg today that details will be in the campaign-finance report he files next week.
But the former congressman says he's already received contributions from more donors than the number who backed his 2004 primary campaign, which he narrowly lost to incumbent Arlen Specter.
Now a Democrat, Specter faces a potential three-way primary race in his bid for a sixth Senate term. At the end of March, Specter had nearly $7 million on hand.
Toomey faces competition for the Republican nomination from fellow conservative Peg Luksik.
