Marple Township police in Delaware County are looking for vandals who have poured paint over the cars of Democratic commissioners on several occasions, the latest occurring Wednesday.
The attacks started in April 2006, when blue paint was splashed on the hoods of a Nissan Altima belonging to Commissioner Charlie Sammartino and a truck belonging to Commissioner John Butler. In January 2007, vandals damaged the vehicle of Sammartino's wife with yellow paint, Sammartino said. On Wednesday, beige paint was poured over the Altima, he said.
No similar acts of vandalism have been reported in the township, Marple Police Chief Thomas Murray said.
"If we can prove that this was somehow politically motivated and there's a charge that we can bring that's stiffer than just a vandalism charge, we will absolutely . . . bring that charge," Murray said.
Anyone with information is urged to call the Marple police at 610-356-1504. - Joelle Farrell
