Hey, Facebook 'fans': It's the 4th

Something you may not know about Philly:

The city of Philadelphia has its own Facebook page - two, actually - and, as of last night, the city listed 161,772 "fans."

But from recent posts, you'd hardly know that one of the city's biggest holidays - this weekend's Fourth of July events - was coming up.

One poster did mention the big bash, which draws thousands for entertainment and a magical fireworks display.

"Happy Birthday America. Phillie [sic] knows how to rock a birthday," the poster wrote.

Other recent posters confined themselves to messages like "Philly is the bomb!" or that cheesesteaks taste really good, or, in one case, an unkind remark about the city administration.

They somehow overlooked the Sunoco Welcome America! celebration revving up tomorrow for Saturday's big celebration.

But the weatherman didn't forget us. He's predicting good weather, partly sunny days through Sunday with temperatures hovering around 80, possibly 85 on Saturday.

Highlights of the weekend include Saturday's 10 a.m. Independence Day ceremony at Independence Mall, followed by a parade through historic Philadelphia at 11 a.m.

An all day "Party on the Parkway" starts at noon Saturday on Benjamin Franklin Parkway.

The highlight of that event will be an 8 p.m. concert featuring singer Sheryl Crow, followed by spectacular fireworks over the Art Museum.

A concert featuring Peter Nero and the Philly Pops will take place at 8:30 p.m. tomorrow at Independence Mall. Sunday's events include a "fam jam," a family-oriented concert at 1 p.m. at Penn's Landing. *
