The Camden man charged with beating his live-in girlfriend's 9-year-old son to death confessed to the killing shortly after his arrest, a Camden County prosecutor said in court today.

Vincent Williams, 26, he allegedly told police yesterday that he had punched Jamar Cruz in the chest twice and kicked him at least four times on Monday morning, then refused to take him to a doctor or to the hospital.

Jamar died about 24 hours later, shortly after his mother called 911 for medical attention.

Williams had shared an Ablett Village apartment in East Camden with the boy's mother and their infant son.

A Superior Court judge kept Williams's bail at $1 million at today's brief arraignment. Williams was visibly upset and appeared to be crying throughout the court appearance.
