By Tim McManus, INQUIRER STAFF WRITERDowningtown East locked up the No. 1 seed in the District 1 Class AAAA tournament and its first unbeaten regular season in school history Friday with a 6-3 win over visiting West Chester Henderson in a Ches-Mont National football game.The Cougars, ranked second in Southeastern Pennsylvania by The Inquirer, open the tournament at home next weekend. Ryley Angeline gave the Cougars (10-0, 6-0) a 6-0 lead on an 8-yard run in the third quarter.Sean Engles 37-yard field goal cut the lead in half in the fourth quarter, but the Warriors (7-3, 3-3) couldnt get any closer.
Danny Jackson stepped into Archbishop Ryan's gym with 0.6 seconds remaining, then glanced at the scoreboard to see his Math, Civics and Sciences boys' basketball squad ahead of Church Farm by one point.
