Bike tours an option on Caribbean sailing

Bicyclists can undertake five moderate-to-hilly rides during the Feb. 22-March 2 Caribbean sailing of the Norwegian Pearl. Organized by Bike & Cruise Tours, the group will spend shore days seeing the islands by bicycle, with mountain bikes, lunch, leadership and support vans provided.

Each day, a picnic stop at a beach will offer time for snorkeling and swimming.

Rides are planned for Tortola, Antigua, Barbados, St. Lucia and Samana in the Dominican Republic, with $650 covering the bicycle portion of the trip. Cruise fares are additional and start at $1,018 for an inside cabin and $1,768 for accommodations with balcony, including port taxes and fees.

The cruise sails round-trip from Miami; transportation to and from Miami is extra. Riders bring their own helmets. They may also provide their own seats and pedals or bicycles (including tandems).

Bike & Cruise Tours operates similar trips in Alaska and Europe. (239-431-6219; www.bikeandcruise.com, click on Caribbean bike tours.)
